Preparations and Expectations

Bring your completed forms to the appointment.  Forms are provided if this is not possible.

Wear simple loose-fitting comfortable clothing to allow easy access to lower arms and legs since commonly used points are in these areas.  Gowns are provided if this is not possible.

Try not to have an empty stomach or a heavy meal before a treatment.

If on any medications, do not stop any medications without a doctor's consent or permission to do so.

Plan to rest after your treatments and avoid strenuous activities, alcohol, or extreme temperature changes such as saunas.

Your first visit is designed to help me understand your reasons for wanting acupuncture treatments, assess your condition, and learn about influences in your life, which may be affecting your health. I am able to make a customized diagnosis and treatment plan for you. This initial appointment usually lasts 60-90 minutes.  I will also take your pulse on both wrists and examine your tongue to formulate a diagnosis according to Traditional Chinese Medicine Principles.  Very fine, sterile, disposable needles are gently placed in specific acupuncture points and not necessarily where your pain might be, for example.  This is due to the energy of meridians all throughout the body.  During a treatment I may also use other techniques such as moxibustion or heat lamps.

The effects after a treatment varies.  Usually, there is a calm and relaxing effect after a treatment. Some people may feel sleepy and others energized.  Again, plan to rest and drink plenty of water in order to get the most out of your treatments.

Subsequent treatments are scheduled to last about 50-75 minutes.  Initially, it is preferable to have weekly treatments to create an internal balance, which can be maintained between treatments. As this balance is achieved, a feeling of well-being increases and visits can be extended to every other week, every month and eventually seasonally. The frequency of treatments will vary with each individual.

The changes you experience from your acupuncture treatments may vary from subtle to dramatic. Be sure to report all changes to me so I can use this information in planning your future treatments.

Please feel free to contact me with questions.

I look forward to meeting and helping you.  Love and Light and Blessings!
